Via dello "Spedale"

In this street there is the ancient “Spedale dei Pellegrini” of the 15th century. Being placed outside the walls of the fortified village, pilgrims and wayfarers could find shelter even if they arrived when the gates of the castle were already closed.

Built by the Confraternity Maria Santissima dei Miracoli, today it houses its archive. Until the ’60s it hosted poor villagers. Subjected to conservative restoration in the seventies, it is considered one of the few medieval hostels that have come down to us in its original structure.
