In Piazzetta Rigone at number 1 there was the ancient seat of local political-administrative power, until 1816 when Castel Rigone was an autonomous community.
On the ground floor are clearly visible two ogival terracotta arches, now buffered.
On April 22, 1798, from this square began the insurrection of Castel Rigone against the Napoleonic occupation that went down in history as “the riots of Broncolo”, at the head of which there was also the castelrigonese Stanislao Berioli.
The “Bigattiera” built to breed silkworms called “bigatti” overlooks this square. The breeding of worms has been an important ancillary economic income for the families of sharecroppers until the discovery of artificial fibers. Women took care of it helped by children but never seeing a penny.
At the end of vicolo del contrasto there is the base of the Maschio – the main tower: continuing on the right one sees the other sides of the Maschio, in vicolo del contrasto at number 13 or in piazzetta Rigone at number 9.
Tradition has it that here there was the entrance of a tunnel, which descended to the foot of Mount Montarone and allowed escape, if the Maschio could no longer be defended.
