Piazza Sant'Agostino

Piazza Sant’Agostino takes its name from the convent of the same name, which had an adjoining church that was erected in 1334 and demolished in the 17th century because it was unsafe. Of the ancient monastery only a part of the oratory remains, consisting of a round brick arch.

At the bottom of the square a terracotta bas-relief depicting St. Michael the Archangel chasing Lucifer to hell is to be admired. Image inspired by the work of Guido Reni, preserved at the convent of the Capuchin friars in Rome.

The shape and the excellent acoustics allow the performance of numerous meetings and shows including, since 1997, the International Festival of young concert performers.
