Tour of the Sanctuaries

The trail starts from the hamlet of Pescia in the Municipality of Castiglione del Lago near the church of S. Maria del Carmine.

Head towards Sanfatucchio, cross the center of the village passing in front of the Ancient Customhouse Palace  and the church, then continue on the municipal road in the direction of the cemetery where you will come across is the Church of S. Felice Papa which houses the museum of peasant civilization ‘Il Granaio della Memoria’ and a rich and varied library.

Begin the descent towards the plain in the direction of Pucciarelli where there is a church of the late nineteenth century with simple features and cross the state road to admire the monumental Sanctuary of the Madonna della Carraia in Bramante style, built at the end of the seventeenth century.

Keep going for a few miles along the road and you will see the vineyards of the Morami winery before meeting the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Busso, a church of the early twentieth century and place of devotion particularly on the last Sunday of September when a solemn annual festival is celebrated.

Ascending the hills, skirt the vineyards of another local winery -property of Anna Gattobigio – on a hill overlooking the Trasimeno from which the name of the winery ‘Il Poggio’ then discend to reach the square of the hamlet of Macchie dominated by the homonymous parish church.
