From the Pontifical Callone (a sort of dam), follow the road that runs along the Fosso Chianetta along the floor of the Valley, touching the building of “La Fabbrica del Callone” and following the signs up to the Tower of Buterone, silent witnesses of the events of the Land Reclamation, now locked up by time in a dense tangle of roads, streets, paths, canals, railway lines …

Continuing up to the height of Poggio Cavaliere – a natural terrace facing west towards the Cetona and the ridge of Città della Pieve to the east – reach the Cycling Route to Ponticelli to retrace your steps.
The main avenue was once tree-lined with mulberries since at the beginning of the 20th century they were used to breed silkworms, from which silk was obtained. These centuries-old plants have now almost all been cut, probably as a result of diseases.

Now, the itinerary is little sheltered by trees so – especially during summer – it is advisable to apply adequate sunscreen and to avoid walking along the trail in the central hours of the day.
