Church of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga

Church of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga

Church

One of Città della Pieve’s hidden gems: the church dedicated to Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, where a copy of Raphael’s painting of the Madonna Terranuova stands out above the altar, along with a statue of the saint, traditionally carried in procession through the streets of the Casalino district.

Built in the second half of the 18th century, the church stands out for its refined late-Baroque and neoclassical architecture. The elegant and slender façade leads to a secluded interior that impresses with its harmonious proportions and the quality of its furnishings. The interior is characterized by the beauty of the stucco work and the luminous spaces, reflecting the refined aesthetic taste of the transitional period between Baroque and Neoclassicism.
