Church of Santa Maria del Carmine – Mantignana

Church of Santa Maria del Carmine – Mantignana

Church

The current church dates back to the late 16th century, built in 1412 and demolished in 1572 due to its unsafe condition. Built in a space that was probably intended for military defense, it was positioned between two square towers.
It has a trapezoidal plan, narrowing towards the altar. The left wall is part of the old castle walls, with the remains of an arrow slit. A plaque found under the floor was placed on the counterfaçade. The ceiling is a barrel vault with lunettes.
