Montecolognola Village

Montecolognola Village

Historical place Village / castle

Among the most beautiful castles of the entire Trasimeno, the small village of Montecolognola dominates the lake and preserves its ancient medieval aspect almost intact with the imposing double access door, the walls and part of the towers.
The fortified castle with an ellipsoidal plan was built around the fourteenth century as a result of an act of rebellion by the inhabitants of Pian di Carpine against the then rulers of the place, the Knights of Jerusalem.

Particularly noteworthy, inside the church of Santa Maria Annunziata, is a 1949 painting by Gerardo Dottori with some episodes from the life of Saint Lucia.
