Church of Pescia of Santa Maria del Carmine and former Hospitale

Church of Pescia of Santa Maria del Carmine and former Hospitale

Church

Originally known as the Church of Sant’Antonio, today this small country church of the ‘500 is dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine. Located at a point where even the waters of Trasimeno once reached, for centuries it was without a bell tower, built only in 1993. Inside, the altar is leaning against the back part, above which the Madonna is painted with Jesus, Saint Anthony of Padua and two Angels.

The former Hospitale is located right in front of the church, separated by the road that passes in the middle. It was established in the last years of the 13th century, in the full period of flowering of the Hospitaller Orders, to welcome travelers and pilgrims walking along the Royal Road.
The hospital and the church had about 90 hectares of land for the maintenance of the priest, for the reception of pilgrims and for the expenses of worship.
