Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo

Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo

Church

Panicale’s main church is dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of the Lombard nation. No trace of the original building remains. In 1546 the interior was enlarged and a new roof was built on three brick support arches. Two stone cornices and a panel painting depicting the nativity, originally situated at the main altar, were retained from the Renaissance church.
The single nave church has a dais, a choir, six side chapels, and a stonework vaulted ceiling decorated with seven medallions depicting stories from the life of the Virgin.
