Leaning Tower of Vernazzano

Leaning Tower of Vernazzano

Historical place

The leaning tower represents a symbol and a link with the history of this border area, full of towers and castles.
One of the hypotheses about its name associates the toponym Vernazzano with the Latin word ver, meaning spring, with reference to the pleasant climate that this place enjoys all year round.

Around the middle of the eighteenth century, the erosion of the ground and a violent earthquake rendered the Castle of Vernazzano unusable, which literally began to collapse from the hill, and brought the tower to the current slope, today held up only by large cables of steel.
