Chapel of Santa Maria in Montivalle

Chapel of Santa Maria in Montivalle

Church

The construction of the chapel dates back to the year 1631, the date stamped on a tile above the entrance door. Facing the lake, it has a rectory on the back, while the facade is surrounded by cypresses. The interior preserves several ex-votos (silver hearts, women’s jewelry, watches and other objects), which testify to the continuation of the cult from the time of construction to the present day.
The small church seems to have risen on the remains of a very venerated Marian shrine: the legend tells that, hit with a stone by a shepherd boy, the statue of Mary began to bleed, collecting its blood in one hand.
